How to Care for Your Lawn After Aeration (and Overseeding)

Watering:
Keep the top inch of soil consistently damp—not soaked. Light, frequent watering 1–2 times a day is ideal, especially during the first 10–14 days. If you notice water running off or pooling, you’re watering too much. The goal is moisture, not saturation.

Walking:
You can walk on the lawn as long as the seed is still visible on the surface and hasn’t started germinating. Once new grass begins to sprout, it’s best to stay off the area entirely to avoid damaging the fragile roots.

Mowing:
Hold off on mowing until the new grass reaches 4–5 inches tall (for fescue). Cutting too early can pull or crush seedlings before they’ve had time to root properly.
